Assistant Vice President - Change Management – Business Analyst

Job Summary:

The Assistant Vice President will be responsible for supporting small to large-sized complex projects that have a long-term impact on Business Unit operations across each phase of the Project Management lifecycle.  Primary areas of focus to include Fund and Tax Accounting, Trade Support, Trade Settlement and other operational units supporting the investment and trading process.


Responsibilities:
  • Project Management
    1. Mentoring and providing work leadership and guidance to others;
    2. Overseeing, coordinating and executing prioritized projects;
    3. Assigning project roles; managing project scope and deadlines;
    4. Resolving conflicts and negotiating changes in project priorities and/or scope;
    5. Overseeing / managing small to large-sized complex projects that have a long-term impact on Business Unit operations across each phase of the Project Management lifecycle;
    6. Collaborating with the Business Unit to define project scope, objectives, assumptions, dependencies, value proposition / rationale, and impacted organizational functions and systems;
    7. Overseeing / leading project management activities and deliverable development including preparation and management of project documents (i.e. Project Initiation Document, Project Charter, Project Plans, Project Status Updates, Issue and Action Item Log, Meeting Minutes, Meeting Agendas, Project Deliverables);
    8. Conducting Program and Project meetings;
    9. Overseeing / preparing and communicating project status updates and issue logs to the Project Sponsor, Change Management, and Executive Management;
    10. Collaborating / coordinating with IT in the execution of Quality Assurance (QA) testing in line with project milestones;
    11. Overseeing / managing the project implementation and control monitoring process;
    12. Overseeing / conducting and memorializing project lessons learned sessions at project closure;

  • Business Analysis
    1. Conceptualizing and developing innovative solutions to address complex Business issues;
    2. Documenting business, functional, and technical requirements
    3. Defining, developing, and executing training materials in conjunction with the Business Unit;
    4. Gathering, documenting, analyzing and drawing conclusions regarding complex data and information (including Workflow, Feasibility, Cost/Benefit, Trend and Cause-and-Effect Analysis);
    5. Developing analyses and reports to track and assess performance;
    6. Defining, creating and running queries and reports;
    7. Creating and maintaining procedures and documentation;
    8. Acting as a departmental resource by providing analysis, recommendations, consultation and expert advice for ad-hoc projects;
    9. Supporting Executive Management in the development of strategy and Executive-level communications;

  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
    1. Defining, coordinating, and executing user acceptance tests against business requirements with or on behalf of the business units for projects;
    2. Documenting test results and developing remediation plans with IT to address unmet business requirements;

  • Process Design/Re-Engineering
    1. Documenting current state (“as is”) and future state (“to be”) processes, systems flows, and data flows;
    2. Formulating, defining and implementing improvements to business processes and operations to solve problems and enhance productivity/effectiveness;

  • Risk and Control Analysis
    1. Facilitating the execution of new initiative risk assessments including: developing detailed process maps, risk and control identification, risk measurement, control gap analysis, risk treatment, risk monitoring and reporting, and risk assessment summary report development for Business Unit and Exec. Management;

  • Domain Knowledge - Qualified individuals should have relevant knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    1. Fund/Portfolio and Partnership Accounting (Book and Tax)
      • Financial industry book and tax accounting; most specifically:
        1. Investment management firm accounting (debits & credits)
        2. Partnership fund accounting
        3. Partnership tax accounting
        4. Investment accounting; experience with traditional fixed income securities, bank debt and revolvers, equities, and derivative transactions;
      • GAAP requirements and control policies and procedures
    2. Operations
      • Buy-Side Middle and Back Office Operations
      • Trade Support
      • Trade Settlements
      • Trade Communication to 3rd Parties
      • Corporate Actions
      • Bank Debt Settlement and Servicing
      • Custodian,  Broker Dealer Operations
    3. Data & Technology
      • System integration/communication
      • Reference Data Management
        1. Reconciliations

Experience Required:
  • 5-8+ years of related experience;
  • Advanced knowledge of Project Management, operating policies, procedures and practices;
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and execute process-improvement initiatives;
  • Exposure to the Financial Services industry, specifically the Alternative Asset Management arena;
    1. Inclusive of Alternative Asset Types – Derivatives and Swaps (i.e., Total Return Swaps, Credit Default Swaps), Bank Debt, Forwards, CDOs, Asset-backed Securities;
  • Hands on experience with core technologies a plus.  Includes:
    1. Investran (or SunGard Investran);
    2. DX (or SunGard DX or SunGard Document Exchange);
    3. Geneva (or Advent Geneva);
    4. Advent Partner investor accounting system;
  • Advanced expertise in MS Visio, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access;
  • Proven ability to analyze issues quickly and to independently take appropriate action under tight time constraints;
  • Experience managing a team (both direct line employees and project team members);
  • A demonstrated ability to create a “consultant like” business presentation by leveraging key data and analysis findings;
  • Experience working with Information Technology (IT) partners both internal to the organization and provided by external 3rd parties to enhance/implement technology solutions in line with business needs;
  • Understanding of industry and best practice risk management and control frameworks (i.e. ERM, COSO, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc.);

Education:
  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field (and/or equivalent experience). Ideal candidate may also possess an MBA.
